Hillview Heritage Estate is located between Sutton Forest and Moss Vale.

On a recent trip to Sydney we decided to break up the journey and take a look around the Southern Highlands. We booked on booking.com – I have been using the Cashrewards website which gives you a little credit for using various websites.

We had planned some various adventures, with the idea of getting to the Bungonia Lookdown before getting there. We left late and the weather was a bit wild, so we didn’t get that happening.

The Hillview site was once a retreat for the governor of the day. What was once a grand home has been separated into eight different cottages named after former governors. Around the grounds are many sculptures, they have various exhibitions throughout the year.

I was attracted by the architecture and heritage elements, I thought that might be something interesting for a place to stay, I actually didn’t know about the sculptures until we arrived.

The name Hillview is apt, with huge views out to every side. We made a short excursion to Fitzroy Falls and did a bit of a walk around there before dinner in Moss Vale.

Inside the accommodation they keep a lot of the old fireplaces and light fittings while providing modern appliances. You also have a breakfast spread provided including cereal, yoghurt, milk and English muffins.

On the way out of town we stopped in Berrima for a play before moving on to Sydney. It’s not really necessary to have a stop along the way, but it was nice to do something different and a memorable place to stay.

This would be a great place to have a large family booking and that is something we may even look into in the future. Here is a video made by somebody else showing some of the facilities.
